RIP - Ms Lo Hwei Yen

Sometimes I get forcibly reminded what a small place Singapore is.

In spite of the fact that she must be a few years my junior at law school, I don't claim to know Ms Lo well - in fact, the first and only time I spoke to her was at a mutual friend's wedding. That was about a year ago. She struck me as a friendly, intelligent person. I didn't speak to her that much, only enough to make polite conversation.

And now, she is gone, a senseless victim to a horrible, horrible act.

Farewell, Ms Lo. I hope you are in a better place now.

"Victims, aren't we all?"

Vide cor tuum in pace.

"It can't rain all the time."

My condolences.

If there is one lesson I learnt from this, it is (1) that there ARE victims in this world and (2) you and I are not victims.

Makes me feel sick in the stomach. She was killed brutally and senselessly. My heart goes out to her husband and family. I don't know what I would do if someone I loved died like this.

@ Khayce: We take a lot for granted, and there are people who are worse off than us, but it doesn't mean we don't become victimized by random or caculated events in life. You have had your fair share of life, so you tell how are we not victims? Unless you mean to say, once you put it all behind you it matters no longer?

I think he's saying these events put things into perspective.

Sorry to hear you were touched by them Khayce, no matter how distantly.

Yeap, Maria, that's exactly what I am saying.

I think there's a big difference between getting murdered by a terrorist and merely dying.

Just having shit happen to you doesn't make you a victim. Shit happens. This was senseless premeditated violence that took a life. A whole different kettle of fish.

I pray you're in a better place, Ms. Lo.
